Traffic Light Forecast (TLF) in the context of Environmental Sensitive Traffic Management (ESTM)

Clean air has become into focus for all cities in recent years. Since 2008/50/EG EC directive on ambient air quality and cleaner air for Europe has triggered national laws, funding schemas and even fines, clean air initiatives are implemented more and more.

This demonstration shows the application of the “individual green wave” based on a Traffic Light Forecast (TLF) service as an attractive means for travellers, while cities benefit from direct influence on vehicle usage, resulting in less vehicle dynamics for clean air.

Besides the direct demonstration, the leverage for traffic managers is pointed out, when the service is engineered as an element in the entire chain of environmental sensitive traffic management. The win-win for travellers on one hand side and cities who provide traffic data for services on the other hand side is shown.
